Addressing the Youth Vaping Epidemic in New Jersey

Tobacco Free for a Healthy NJ (TFHNJ), is responding to the sharp rise in youth vaping with a comprehensive, multi‑strategy approach. Through Youth Tobacco Action Groups, a Vaping Policy Toolkit, and the “Don’t Get Vaped In” training initiative, TFHNJ empowers schools and communities to prevent vaping and support students with effective, educational interventions.

Don’t Get Vaped In: Empowering Adults to Protect Youth

TFHNJ offers specialized training to equip adults with the knowledge and tools needed to address youth vaping effectively. Options include Adult‑to‑Adult training for school staff, parents, and community members, as well as Adult‑to‑Youth training for teachers and prevention educators who deliver the Don’t Get Vaped In curriculum directly to students.

Training Formats:

  • Adult to Adult: Learn about emerging vaping trends and prevention strategies to support schools and families.

  • Adult to Youth: Designed for educators who teach youth, complete with curriculum guidance and ready‑to‑use materials.

Youth Leading Youth: A Peer‑to‑Peer Approach

The Youth‑to‑Youth training empowers young leaders to educate their peers using a flexible curriculum that can be delivered as‑is or adapted by youth groups. This peer‑driven model helps reinforce positive norms and strengthens youth engagement around vaping prevention.
