Tobacco-Free for a Healthy NJ is a comprehensive tobacco prevention and cessation program funded by the NJ Department of Health, Office of Tobacco Control and Prevention, which works to reduce tobacco use and the negative impact of secondhand smoke in all counties of New Jersey.

Take Down Tobacco Activities

Take Down Tobacco is a National Day of Action where youth advocates across the county come together to call out Big Tobacco's bluff and expose them for who they are, gambling with peoples lives. This year's Day of Action took place on April 1st 2023. Incorruptible.Us county youth groups participated by hosting events and creating media content. Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids featured Sussex County Incorruptible.Us youth on the Take Down Tobacco Day website!

2023 New Jersey Sustainability Summit


Tobacco Free for a Healthy NJ was invited to take part in a resource provider panel during the 2023 Sustainability Summit held on May 5th at Bell Works in Holmdel. The summit featured fourteen sustainability sessions and an exhibit area with over forty businesses, non-profit agencies, and state agencies. During the panel session, Tobacco Free for a Healthy NJ was able to present about the Tobacco Free Community designation through Sustainable Jersey as well as answer participant questions and network with fellow panelists.


 

Tobacco Free Community Action


The Tobacco Free for a Healthy NJ team reviewed 27 municipalities submissions’ for

Tobacco Free Community designation under the Sustainable Jersey program in the 2022 cycle. Maplewood was awarded the designation for their comprehensive tobacco actions that included Tobacco/Vaping education on their website, along with the promotion of cessation education and the passing of an ordinance that restricted the sale of ENDS in convenience stores and pharmacies.

TFHNJ INITIATIVE SPOTLIGHT


Breathe Easy Al Fresco


This new campaign under Working Well Tobacco Free will raise awareness about the harms of second and thirdhand smoke at businesses that offer outdoor dining. Working Well Tobacco Free (WWTF) will offer assistance to any restaurants, coffee shops, and bars by providing free signage and resources along with creating or updating the business’s tobacco-free policy. Businesses will also be featured on our website and social media platforms. WWTF can also assist towns with passing their own ordinance or resolution to encourage outdoor smoke-free dining.

    • Designed to help young people quit vaping

  • Text messaging program that incorporates messages from other young people who are attempting to or have successfully quit

  • This Is Quitting is tailored based on ages within 13 to 24

Inspira is proud to promote the availability of the quite center's free statewide LGBTQ+ quit group. This is a welcoming, supportive, and safe environment for everyone.


 

CHANGEMAKERS


C.E.A.S.E

Casino Employees Against Smoking's (Harmful) Effects (CEASE) is a group of thousands of casino dealers and other frontline gaming workers that is fighting to permanently remove smoking from our workplaces. CEASE has chapters working to close the casino smoking loophole in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Kansas and Virginia. We celebrate these changemakers that are working to change policy that will change (and save) lives.
