Tobacco-Free for a Healthy NJ is a comprehensive tobacco prevention and cessation program funded by the NJ Department of Health, Office of Tobacco Control and Prevention, which works to reduce tobacco use and the negative impact of secondhand smoke in all counties of New Jersey.

Lindsey Meyer Teen Institute Summer
Leadership Conference
This summer, Incorruptible.Us Youth attended the Lindsey Meyer Teen Institute’s Summer Leadership Conference at YMCA Camp Mason in Hardwick, N.J. Throughout the week, youth engaged in Action Planning, Process Groups, built leadership skills, met new friends, and had lots of fun along the way. During Action Planning, Incorruptible.Us came up with ideas geared towards the Great American SmokeOut and discussed ways to improve their social media reach. Incorruptible.Us also received the Knowledge Award and Change award from LMTI for their amazing accomplishments.

Great American Smokeout
The Great American Smokeout (GASO) is Thursday, November 16th. It is an annual event sponsored by the American Cancer Society (ACS) and encourages people to quit smoking or vaping. People can use the date to make a plan to quit, or plan in advance and initiate a smoking cessation plan on the day of the event.
Tobacco Free for a Healthy NJ will be providing resources to individuals, community groups, businesses, and health care providers. We will host a GASO Tobacco Free Tuesday webinar on October 31st at 10:30 AM. The Incorruptible.Us youth will be presenting GASO primers on November 7th at 6:00 PM. Several schools will also be hosting events on the day of GASO and promoting cessation resources.

Congressman Frank Pallone Hosts Roundtable on Progress to Protect Young People from Dangerous Tobacco Products
In August, 2 Incorruptible Us members, 2 Incorruptible U Rutgers University, 1 Incorruptible U TCNJ, Tobacco Free for a Healthy NJ members, and Rutgers University Institute for Nicotine and Tobacco Studies joined a round table discussion hosted by Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids and Congressman Frank Pallone. The Incorruptible.Us and Incorruptible U youth spoke and engaged in discussion with the roundtable!

Health Equity Impact
FDA says it will finalize ban on menthol tobacco products ‘in coming months’
In April, 2022, when the FDA initially announced that it was going to ban the popular flavor, it set a deadline of August 2023 to work out the details. That deadline is still listed online, but a spokesperson said it will instead complete work on the rule “in the coming months.”
